Slovak nationals who have been resident in France for a long time and who have also been forced to serve in the Tşchechoslovak Legion As regards the question of the treatment of the French prisoners of Czech nationality, it has been decided from the highest point that the treatment should be decisive for whether these prisoners acquired the nationality of the Protectorate (day of death: 16.3.39). Those who left the Protectorate after l6.3.39 must therefore be treated as traitors. Those who emigrated from the Czech Republic before l6.3.3.39 will generally not have acquired the nationality of the protectorate, so they are stateless and therefore cannot be prosecuted for treason. As a result of this decision, I order that all Czechs who have served in the Czecho-Slovak legion in France should take action in accordance with their point of view. The Slovaks, as members of a foreign state, must not be included in this regulation. As a return of all Czech legi- naries to the Reichsgebiet, especially to the Protectorate, at present. I hereby order that all members of the former "Czech Legion in France" should first be taken into protective custody. After their arrest, the necessary findings are in the sense of my above -4-
