2.38 It is true that B e r a n in the autumn of l938 stressed the need to make a good compromise with the German Reich. He also stressed that it was necessary to maintain good relations with England, France, Poland, Hungary, Romania, etc. Beran's assertion that he was able to maintain peace and order is reflected by the riots against Germans in the streets of Prague. Beran also wrongly claims for himself the merit of having carried out the "demobilization" of the Czech army. Especially with regard to the army, the double game of Beran clearly comes to light. (Appendix H-l, H-2, H-4) It is true that the chairman of the agricultural cooperatives, Ing.Klyndera, took part in the farmers' meeting in Goslar in the year l938. However, the same Klydera took part shortly before the close union of the Slavic peoples and organized a demonstration for Dr.Benesch. (Appendix H-3) In the Government Declaration of 1 December 1988, Beran was in favour of cooperation with Germany, but he also called for a good neighbourly relationship with Hungary and Poland and for a government with Romania and Yugoslavia. In the previous remarks, Beran complains that parts of the territory had to be transferred to the Reich, which had been owned by the Czech Republic since the time of human memory (Appendix No.H-4).
