K.1 37 According to the official communiqué of 27 April 1939, the President Dr. Emil Há c h a "appointed the previous government, which was in the state of the opposition, dismissing General Eliáš as Prime Minister". In political circles in Prague and especially in the case of foreign journalists, it was known at that time that B e r a n had been trying since March 15, 1939 to get rid of his office as President of the Minister or to be dismissed. > The decisive factor was by no means the fact that he was insufficiently commanding the German language. B e r a n has always preferred - which also proves his whole career - to act as a party chairman, as a mastermind, behind the scenes, in order to be able to continue his double game. In particular, he was still certain of his considerable influence without being burdened with any responsibilities, especially in the pressseltor. B e r a n was the production that he was the "coming man" if one day the German policy "shipwreck" would have suffered.
