- 3 - aa 3 In those cases where German middlemen took the opportunity to refer to the speech during meetings or talks with Czechs and to question the Czechs for their impressions, it was possible to establish that all these persons exercised the greatest restraint. While a small part of them refused to deal with the matter at all, others tried to evade the direct opinion with all possible excuses, often pointing out that they would not allow themselves to criticise the speech. In general, however, the statements and opinions made on these occasions were quite positive, although the formulations were taken very cautiously. In these two groups, the assessment was therefore uniformly agreed. However, it is not to be forgotten that this impression is only to be considered relative both in terms of the persons who are speaking and the German interlocutors, as well as in respect of the other circumstances. Whether and to what extent the opinions expressed here correspond to the real feeling and production of the individual persons, to which extent the emphasis on one's own logic, intentional beauty dyeing or conscious camouflage contribute.
