13 13 five-class German school is a one-class school and the kindergarten founded in 1911/12 is dissolved. The decline of Germanism in Prerau is best seen from the following comparison: In 1895 there were between 12 and 13.00o inhabitants about 2,0o Germans; today live under about 26.ooo inhabitants against 600 Germans. Currently there are German institutions: a two-class elementary school, a day care centre and an auxiliary centre 'Mother and Child'. Moravian- W e i B k i r c h e n had five different German institutions at the time of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The German organizational life Casino-Verein 1835 and Gesangverein Founded in 1858, experienced a decades of flourishing. 19o3 the Czechs managed to reach the majority in the city and to appoint a Czech mayor. After 1918 there was a radical Czechization, which made many Germans emigrate. The military institutions became a Czech military academy for the young officer; the German forestry school became Czech; the families of Czech families and the new establishment of Czech schools made rapid progress. The German elementary school, which still had five classes after the World War, was gradually reduced and finally converted into a one-class school 14 days before the establishment of the Protectorate. Today, the city counts among about 13.oo inhabitants over 8oo Germans, of which 4oo "Neudeutsche". The German residents there experienced a special boost through the reopening of the German Foist School in September 194o. Finally, the scattered German language of OLB Olmütz can be said that since the establishment of the protectorate a far-reaching influence of Germanism could be restored in this field, especially at the initiative of German authorities. However, a final, popularly successful exploitation of these favourable conditions is not guaranteed for the future in view of the numerical, biological and conservational weakness of scattered Germanism, as far as no German arrival from outside should take place. In view of this overall situation, Germanism in and around Olmütz can only be a point of departure, but not a point for a numerical strengthening of the scattered German language in Olmutz. fu 44-Dherftarmbanofilhrer
