STATE SECRETARY FOR THE RUSSIAN PROTECTOR IN THINGS AND IN MORAVA, PRAGUE, inv. 581, sig. 109-4328
English Translation
At present, 9.28 ha, i.e. one eighth of the total area, are used for vegetable production, but in previous economic years up to 28 ha, that is more than a third of the land, were devoted to vegetable production. Thus, according to the structure, these are best vegetable and beet soils. Because of the protected position, however, hops thrive very well, whose cultivation begins in this area and then moves to Raudnitz. Opposite, beyond the river, protect from north winds the hills of Melnik planted with wine. Another advantage of the location on the Vltava is the ability to buy Prague faeces for compost at low prices, which are transported out with ships and pumped with pumps up to the field. However, the fact that a part of the fields is flooded in the event of floods is not too concealed and also to be taken into account in the assessment is that the altitude of the sea is only l80 m, i.e. equal to the value that applies to the Vltava mirror in Prague. At the exceptionally high water level of this year's winter there were cca l5 ha, i.e. one fifth of the land under water. During the growing season, however, no floods have occurred in recent years. Climate. The estate is located in the dry zone, which covers the area around Melnik. Apart from the 2 last years, the average annual precipitation value is less than 40Omm. However, there have also been years since only 50 to 1 00 mm total precipitation was recorded throughout the year. Jedibab's fields are known to bear such drought periods very well, which can be explained by the groundwater conditions already mentioned. Such a climate is to be described as beneficial.
