27 Report on the political development in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia from 1 August to 1 September 1941. Seheim The political development in the Protectorate has been marked in recent weeks by a considerable stiffening of the Czech resistance spirit, which is caused in the matter of the Eaupt: 1.) by a strengthening of the general conviction that Germany must lose the war, 2.) by an increasing resentment of the broad race of the population about the further deterioration of the supply situation. The unexpected toughness of the Bolshevik resistance against the German Wehrmacht's advance and the other external political situation made the view that the löhepunkt of the German successes was surpassed and that the German final defeat was inevitable, almost became the all-gezeingut of the techechen. Although the politically exposed circles of Czechism showed themselves even more cautiously, in order to prevent all possibilities of the outcome of the war and not to challenge sharp German countermeasures by prematurely open fiderstand. Underneath the surface, however, the rise of passive resistance and hostility against everything is to be observed everywhere; individual Germans are harassed, boycotted and threatened, German-friendly Czechs terrorized. For the European significance of the German struggle against Bolshevism, almost all understanding is lacking, so that even isolated Czechs say that Czechism had lost its last chance and that it must be clear that the corresponding conclusions of German political leadership cannot be omitted. - 2
