28 - 2 - It is of the greatest importance that the stiffening of the anti-German syllabuse more and more spreads to the Czech working class. The main reason for this is obviously the further deterioration of the food situation in the protectorate, which is mainly due to the extraordinary shortage of potatoes, together with the scarcity and reduction in the quality of bread and flour and the reduction in production. (In potatoes, we have already started grubbing up the unripe medium-early and late potatoes and have made deep intervention in the livestock stocks for the partial supply.) As a direct consequence, there is an increasing unemployment in the labour and some significant decline in performance in numerous industrial and agricultural enterprises of the Protectorate. Since August 1st, 12 cases have resulted in far-reaching stoppages of work, including in factories of war, all of which were based on the nutritional situation. The danger of further strikes in the extremely effective enemy propaganda and in the continuation of the poor supply situation despite the respective state police action against the ringleaders. In addition, there has been an increasing willingness among the workers to comply with the sabotage instructions given by the enemy radio; in the last four weeks, there have been various sabotages, particularly the cutting of numerous telephone cables and brake hoses on trains, the damage to machines, the laying of fires (in one case, for example). 1 ooo.ooo 1 petrol) - 3 -
