1a 9 With regard to the distribution of South Tyroleans, the following order was issued: The Neichsführer Reichskommissar für die Festigung Berlin, 26 January 1940. German folklore I/31/26.1.40 Dr. F/K An 1. the Gauleiter des Gaues Tirol-Vorarlberg, Jnnsbruck, 2nd the Gaueiter desgaues Salzburg, Salzburg, 3rd the Gaudeiter des Gaules Oberdonau, Linz, 4th the Gaucheiter des Gaues Steiermark, Graz, 5th The Gauleiter des Gaues Kärnten, Klagenfurt, 6. the head of the official German immigration and return migration agencies, Bolzano (by courier route). Acceptance and after completion of the option carried out until 31 December 1939 in the former accommodation South Tyrol it is necessary to provide guidelines for the provisional resp. Finally, I should like to ask the Commission whether it is prepared to make a final assessment of the situation in the southern part of the country, to the extent that this is already possible at the present time. The former South Tyrol must be taken into account in this respect that, in contrast to the rapid relocation of the people's Germans from the Baltic states, as well as from Volhynia and Galicia, the collection of the South Tyrolean ethnic group can extend to a far longer period, i.e. to about three years. According to the German-Italian agreements, the confederation of the South Tyrolean People's Germans was to be completed by 31 December 1942. Only the non-bitch-bound Reich Germans who had been resident in this area had to be taken into the Reichsgebiet until 26 January 1940, which has now happened. The relatively long resettlement period makes it possible to keep the core of the South Tyrolean ethnic group in a closed position and to move it to the Neich area according to plan and organically. For executive, cultural and population reasons, it is intended to provide the South Tyrol ethnic group with a closed settlement area. The choice of this area will take place in close agreement with the South Tyrolean ethnic group leadership. A timely announcement at the appropriate time is reserved. For special reasons, the intention to provide for a closed settlement area for the South Tyrolians was to grant exceptions in the following three cases: 1. The final assessment of a larger number of South Tyroleans, including for the time being about 800 peasant families, in the Gau Tirol-Vorarlberg; 2. the final assessment by the inhabitants of the canal valley located in the optional area (about 4600 persons) in the Gau Kärnten; 3. the final occupation of the inhabitants of Val Gardena (about 4400 persons) in the gau Carinthia, mainly in the district of Lienz. The rest of the South Tyrolean population is to be reserved for the closed settlement area. I am aware that this goal of the eventual settlement of the South Tyroleans as close as possible will not be fully achieved. A not inconsiderable part of the Südtirolians, who have their own possessions, such as the restaurant and hotel owners, will not want to wait or can wait so long until in the later settlement area offers a favorable accommodation possibility, and therefore will always try to acquire suitable purchase objects for the continuation of the existence. This can of course not be prevented from these South Tyrolean bites, especially since to them the free choice
