Prague, 1 April 1941.0 1I/2-5650/41 l.)Remark. E= Subject: Settlement of Bessarabia Germans in the Protectorate. On special order, the acting head of the soil office has accommodated 135 families of the Bes sarabia-Germans on farms K o s c h a t e k , K r o p a t s ch - W r u t i t z and W s c he l i s. The report is attached. The selection was made by the Reichskommissar for the consolidation of German ethnicity for the purpose of settling in the Pro- tectorate. In the shortest time possible, the necessary equipment was installed for the supply. These costs and those for the stay in the new resettlement camp are to be borne by the Volks- deutschen Mittelstelle and by the Reichskommissar für die Festifierung deutschen Volkstums. For further consideration of the matter some fundamental points have to be clarified and determined. 4.1.) Of the interested parties, the settlement of this German group from Bessarabia in the Protectorate is sought. On the basis of a lecture by the State Secretary, the Reich Protector decided that this settlement should take place. Since a longer stay in camps is inappropriate for the preservation of the peasant's will to settle, it must be clarified whether this settlement is to be carried out during the war period. The time required to carry out the settlement project in any case may be used by the resettlement workers in the agricultural holdings of the intended settlement area, for incorporation into local conditions.
