98 General Unit V/3 No. V/3- 1174 1944 Prague, 6 July 1944 To the Head of Division I on the Headof Division V Subject: Quarterly administrative report for the period 1 April 1944 to 30 June 1944 Reference__:_ Decree I 1 A/l800 of 12 November 1942 Food and Agriculture: During the period under review there were no significant price changes, especially for consumers. The price compensation for imported food products, whose prices and import costs are constantly increasing, has been developed with the further use of public funds. Non-essential imports are stopped in agreement with the competent authorities. Substitute foodstuffs are still imported in large quantities from the rest of the Reich and from Holland, with producer prices often above the local level. In order to eliminate the higher rates, it was determined that all imported food products from these areas need to be accepted by the Supreme Price Authority prior to the sale of the price. The measure of the permissible price is the domestic price of comparable products. Therefore, many imports will have to be left unloaded, which is not a question of concern, since domestic production is sufficient to meet the needs of this sector. The production of so-called hot drinks or cold drinks on the basis of fruit juices, glucose, etc., which is necessary for the lack of alcoholic beverages, has been standardized in price formation by creating group prices which take account of quality and abundance. The increase in the price of sugar beet from K 32.- to K 33.- per 100 kg was agreed. The additional price is financed from public funds, so that the harvest result and average earnings of the sugar industry should not make it possible for the sugar industries to ask for the increase in price. A request for an increase in milk prices of 40 tonnes per litre in view of the rising costs of dairies could be met in a very practical way.
