33 Use of the grant. Apparatus and work delimitation. The grant is to be used for : preparation of material requirements for bibliographical and other works, promotion of investigations in libraries and archives outside Prague, preparation of copies, maps, etc., support of valuable research results. The most important works on the political, popular, economic and Bocial history of Bohemia and Moravia are to be acquired in order to create a hand library. This has happened in part in the past year. Depending on the offer, one or the other post of newspapers and magazines will also be available: for example, some older years of "Bohemia" have been procured. Finally, the grant will be used to acquire estates of renowned journalists from Bohemia and Moravia. The spatial demarcation of the investigations is consistent with the historical scope of the countries of Bohemia, Moravia and Oester- reichisch-Schlesien, i.e. includes the present-day protectorate and the present Sudetengau. No newspapers have appeared in the places attached to the Gaue Niederdonau, Oberdonau and Bayreuth, so that this change cannot be taken into account. The concept of press history in the sense of research includes: daily newspapers, weekly newspapers, magazines of all kinds, leaflets, propaganda ind agitation in the general and narrow sense. The research of the German press system and here again first the period from l9l8 to 1938, next the time since the Schönerer movement began. This work will be promoted in the next two years to the extent that the volumes in question are already printed at the University jubilee in 48 and at the ten-year celebration of the return of the Sudetenland to the Reich. This can be envisaged in the case of intensive work which is promoted accordingly. However, there is a great deal of scattered material to be collected, inspected and processed. Later, the research and presentation of the Czech press is envisaged in the past and the present. As regards the political importance of this complementary project, a special justification is not required as soon as it is considered to what extent the Czech press has prepared, both internally and externally, the results of the year l98 and the further policy up to 1938. In the near future, however, the implementation of this second project will be a question of people, since fewer and fewer language experts are already available for it. The apparatus of research will be kept as small as possible. No large research institution is put into operation, but the war conditions are taken into account in every respect.
