3( -14 - German Theatre. The beginning of the theatre season in the cities of Brno, Moravian Ostrava and Jglau brought German cultural work to the fore again. In Brno, the opening performance, which was carefully prepared and, in proportion to the available resources, also brought quite considerable performance of the "tannhäuser", received a special note through the presence of the Under-Secretary of State Dr.von Burgsdorff, who spoke words of welcome in the name of the Reich's protector. In assessing the performance of the German theatres, it must be taken into account that they face considerable technical and financial difficulties. However, the three directors, each in its own way, are not lacking in emotion and activity; they sincerely try not to leave their stages behind the Czech theatres, which work with great effort and with the greatest financial support of public authorities. This year, for the first time ever, the three Moravian theatres have been brought to a closer collaboration, and the Brno artistic director will provide the Moravian Ostrava and Jglauer theatre with his opera and operetta powers as much as possible. Even the smaller Moravian cities will be given more attention to guest performances during this season than before, in itself it would be the task of Wallek
