26 - 4 - also the President of the Land, who, as I have already said, always shows me a correct and loyal attitude, and tries to meet my wishes and demands with the desirable speed, in my opinion does not have the necessary overview of his authority and is largely dependent on his departmental and group leaders, who also make political decisions of greater importance independently, for which the President or his representative himself should assume responsibility. The national authority alone counts 346 senior officials, namely: officials of the higher administrative service 148 senior technical service officials 122 surveying service officials 13 economic and technical service officers 39 forestry service officials 9 / medical officers 8 veterinary officers 1. It is inevitable that in the case of such an inflated apparatus the departmental boards will gain in importance, which in itself is unusual for a medium-sized authority, and it seems to me therefore necessary that these senior officials also be subject to a more detailed examination of their political viability. I would like to ask the Commissioner whether he is prepared to accept the amendments tabled by the Committee on Legal Affairs and Citizens' Rights.
