If at the end of April the mood was marked by the fact that the hopes and fears of the Czechs were about to match their future fate, this atmospheric balance shifted again in May in favour of the view that a military and political development had now begun, which was the fate of the country. The interpretation of the possibility of a longer period of war in the Reich's speech of the leader, the change of government in the Soviet Union, the fall of Hess and the loss of the battleship "Bismarck" were milestones of this atmospheric development, which were also caused by rumors of a coming Hun- gersnot and a economic collapse of the empire for the broad mass of the Czech population was under-built. In daily life, the cases of passive resistance of the Czechs, which are of the view "that it will not take long after all" were accumulated. The influence of the enemy radio was again particularly evident in various individual cases. The active resistance movement of the Czechs has been intervened in recent weeks by a number of major state police measures. The arrest of the former leader of Czech Social-Democrats Hampl decisively affected the leadership of the illegal social-democratic functionaries and their post-riding apparatus. At the same time, the arrest of the long-standing Czech agricultural party leader and former Prime Minister Beran, for the support of the Czech intelligence service serving the enemy powers, led to an extremely important internal political intervention beyond illegitimate circles.
