Prague, September 1942. Subject: Draft Lammers Report No.3( 15.8 to 10.9.1942). In recent weeks, the interest of the Czechs in the events of war has generally increased, and efforts have been made to establish a deterioration in German positions. The special reports on the successful activities of the submarines and the German successes on the eastern front were given little importance and explained that, despite all German efforts, it has not yet been possible to achieve decisive successes in any of the war scenes. In particular, it was pointed out that the Russian attacks in the central and northern parts of the Eastern Front were continuing, and that the front was frozen in Africa. On the other hand, the Allies were convinced that they would make a big blow and that, in the coming months, huge decisions would be made. In this context, Churchill's journey to Moscow was first and foremost associated with a imminent establishment of the second front, of which much had already been said before, and almost without exception the journey of Churchill was presented as a feat and considered proof that the Allies had now taken the initiative. The Czechs looked forward to the establishment of the second front with hopeful expectation, as they expected it to be the only possibility of a rapid collapse of Germany. Already during the morning of 19.8. Under reference to the English radio, rumours were spread with undisguised joy that the English had put themselves in a successful fight on French soil on the German Wehrmacht. The special report from the Führerhaupt- quartier about the failure of the landing attempt was mixed with the Czech population. In part, the information of the OKW was described as incredible and the joy of the actual establishment of the second front was openly expressed, on the other hand, the news of dismay and dejection about the rapid failure of this action was triggered. Czech intelligence circles were soon to launch retaliations, which made the landing only a first attempt.
