-2 - 63 Again, the lower classes of the Czechs were most open-minded. In addition to complaints about poor supplies of fruit and vegetables, rumours about alleged shortages of certain foods, especially with fat, were clearly in the foreground during the last few weeks, with strong interest, and sometimes with passion-related issues of youth education, which were triggered by the Czech Youth Cura- tion under Minister Moravec, which emerged with initial work plans, ż large part-pesiti- ven Simé, while Bie restrictions in the higher N4 rad te school system caused serious concerns and often a German enemy avifaelset. More attention was also paid to the work of the new Ministry of Propaganda (Moravec). On the other hand, the questions and problems raised by the conversion of the administration left the general public almost untouched and limited the discussions to interested parties. By Czech officials, the German measures are seen primarily as a restriction of autonomy, as an unpleasant burden with increased responsibility and as a limitation of favourable promotion possibilities. Adopting statements on the Czech side are more in the line of an anticipatory consideration. Medium and, above all, low-ranking officials and employees expect more protection from a German district captain in all personal matters, while above all Czech businessmen make it clear in statements that they are happy to be able to take care of their affairs directly at the district authority. In the adaptation of the protectorate administration to the administration of the empire, Czechs, who were positively united, saw the guarantee of a reduction in the bureaucracy of the Czech administrative officials in their opinion and the smooth functioning of the administration in the Protectorate by the appointment of German heads or district heads. In this context, the wish was expressed that the Czech jurisdiction should be adapted to that of the Reich and drawn up in accordance with the German model should be extended beyond the administration.
