C9 αd$ Prague, 20 August 1942 + (toecio). 2ay 0.4s. Betr.: Draft for Lammers report No.2 (20.6. to 15.8.1942) The last weeks of the Czechs were atmospherically under the impression of summer rest and holiday time. The large mass of the population therefore showed less interest in the political events and daily issues. Nevertheless, there were various signs of the political stiffening of a part of the Czechs, who now seem to have found their self-assured position after the state of emergency. Under the influence of the enemy foreign radio, a whispering propaganda and rumors about alleged crisis states of the empire, mass destructions, attacks and sabotage, which was fed by various large-scale searches for fugitive prisoners of war, which were also planned in the Protectorate, were not inconsiderable for summer conditions. As characteristic of this mood formation and movement of the Czechs during the last weeks, their reception of the war events could be considered. If, after the abolition of the exception, a conspicuous attention was to be paid to the war-weeks-views and the German weapons successes on the eastern front were initially not without impression, it would sound like : this interest due to the counter-work and Bagatellization by Czech intelligence circles quickly ceased: The Soviet armament potential was unbrocher in Siberia had secretly built huge industrial centers which, the supply difficulties of the empire increased enormously, in North Africa the Axis forces were pushed into the defensive, a second front stood immediately before e.g. were usual slogans, which still seem to have been underlined by exaggerated descriptions of the effect of English air raids on North and West German cities. Only in the second week of August, the increasing and increasing content of special melodies from the various war scenes caused a more serious attention to the front events and increased voices of insight into the real balance of forces.
