Report on the general political situation in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia for the period from 15.1. to 10.2.4l The waiting attitude of the Czech people, which was particularly evident in the last days of the past year, has become more and more rigid. In particular, it was the Italian failures that made the original hope of the Czechs for a defeat of the Axis Powers a firm triumph. In the same sense, the measures to remedy economic deficiencies and to combat maladministration in the food industry were seen as proof that the economic collapse of the empire was imminent. In this development, too, the speech of the leader at the end of the reporting period was little understood by the Czechs. As far as it had fallen on fertile soil, its effect was affected by the ever-lasting whisper propaganda. In particular, it is the upper layer that counters all positive phenomena. Thus, it endeavoured to transfer to the great mass of the Czech people the dismay that the discussion of the Legionnaire's question in the magazine "Bohemians and Moravia" and the civil servants' removal decree in its own ranks, which had essentially not taken part in these events, with the tendency to make it clear to the public that these measures were directed against the technical people.
