6 This statement by the Deputy Reich Protector impressed the Czech working class deeply. As we state elsewhere, it did not take even 24 hours for this decree of the Reich Protector to be officially announced./The Reich Protector, acting as deputy, continued to deal with the wage problem in detail and announced that this question will also be dealt with in stages. In the metal industry, an improvement in wages will be announced in the shortest possible time. As far as the allowance for children is concerned, the Deputy Reich Protector reported that this wish was immediately met. As we learn, these allowances will be granted according to the principles of social welfare policy under the following conditions: above all, the absolute political trustworthiness of the parents will be necessary; the allowances will only be granted to healthy children after a medical examination has been carried out and an identification of the proper education of the child will be required. Furthermore, the Deputy Reichsprotector expressed himself positively about the desire for canteens in the basic position; he said that he will examine the desire as far as it concerns the heavy and long-term workers and answered also assuredly to the desire of a larger contingent of work shoes; in a short time hundreds of thousands to 200,000 pairs of work boots will be put to the disposition and finally they will not even have to be paid, so they will be distributed to the workers who need each other, because this will make up for the number from the accumulated wealth of the usurers and overpricers. Furthermore, the Deputy Reich Protector also commented on the allocation of labour to the working population, he pointed out that it is necessary to bear in mind that in the first place the fighting soldiers must be well and abundantly supplied with these products, for which often in heavy fights the smoke material.
