"Lausanner Zeitung" of 24 July 1939 Germanisation of Czech Slovakia We are told by the Czech side: Under the leadership of the famous Frank, former bookseller apprentice, now Secretary of State of Mr. Neurath, the Sudeten Germans intensify terror and exploit the occupied country in the most brutal manner. One has to proclaim the extraterritoriality in the protectorate of the German minority, whose small number in the course of the last weeks, through the arrival of the families of German officials who occupied the territory, "arized" Berlin specialists in art and to buy everything, as well as adventurers of all kinds, considerably increased. All Germans have become citizens of the Reich, solely dependent on German laws and courts, German administrative authorities and schools (all paid with Czech money); they are thus citizens of "first class", who enjoy a special position in relation to the Czech majority of 95%, in all areas of public and economic life. The second stroke of violence is that of the famous expropriation decree against the Jews, which not only (over the head of the government) provides for the confiscation of real estate, jewelry and valuable metals, which are in the possession of the Jews but does not affect these measures in favour of the native population or the government, but deliberately in favor of the Germans.
