- 10 - Before going into the short historical interlude - to Czechoslovakia - kozme, I would like to say a word about the warlike actions that were decisive in German history and politics in the 18th and 19th centuries, which took place in the Bohemian-Moravian region. In all the years, German blood has flowed into the Bohemian and Mihrian lands in many battles fought for the Reich or for German interests. Especially since the Thirty Years' War, decisive things of German and European history have been shaped in this area. On Bohemian soil, Frederick the Great and Maria Theresie fought for Silesia. At Kolin, l757 decided that the time for a unified leadership of Germany was not yet ripe. At Austerlitz in Moravia, the outcome of the battle brought Napoleon's supremacy in Europe. In 1809, under the spiritual leadership of Freiherr v.Stein, the first resistance against Napoleon and l8l3 began after the victorious battles of General V. Kleist against Vandamme on the slopes of the Erzgebirge near Nollendorf and Kulm von Böhmen from the advance to the victorious Battle of Leipzig. In l866 Bismarck created on the battlefield of Königgrätz the prerequisites for the founding of the second kingdom. Hardly any other country has such an intimate share in the imperial faces as Bohemia and Moravia. In all these years, of course, the popular struggle has never rested. It has been led by both nations with varying happiness and strength. One thing is certain: it was always best for the Czech people to submit themselves - working peacefully - to German life and German leadership.
