- 6 - also the Bohemian countries in their entirety belong to the territory of the German Federal Republic. Up to the year l866 the Bohemians have been part of the Federal German territory and thus exactly as German core area as for example Bavaria, Prussia, the Rhinelands etc. If in the year l848 Palacky answered the invitation of the Frankfurt Pre-Parliament negatively on the grounds that Bohemia does not belong to the German association, he has thereby pronounced a conscious untruth. Today, we can think back to this invitation with the awareness that the then German-speaking countries felt quite alive about the membership of the German state association and that Palacky, the representative of the Czechs, wanted to draw on the Reichsreforwplann to shape it. The rejection of Palacky has become characteristic and immediately fateful for the further development of Czech things. Palacki has fled into the dream of Austro-Slavism. He has followed the illusionary opinion that the Habsburg monarchy could be transformed into a League of Nations under Slavic leadership. He also temporarily pursued panslavistic tendencies (ball trip to Moscow) and his son-in-law Rieger created one of the foundations for Western friendships (Memorandum to Napoleon III). Palacky - the historian! - has forgotten that the years he nech l866, i.e. After Austria's establishment by the German Confederation, the first de zennium in the thousand-year history of its homeland was experienced, in which there was no legal connection between the Bohemian Lindern and the German Reich. The collapse of the Central Powers l9l8 then led for the first time in history to a complete detachment of the countries of Bohemia and Moravia from German domination and to sovereign self-esteem in Czech Slovakia.
