to secure an existence somewhere, which promised him their help. It is not surprising that Mr Hrusovsky had accepted with great pleasure the offer of a general manager at Dunajplavba and the help of the socialist press, all the more so since he had great debts and thus saw the possibility of deporting them in some way to the company. Such attempts were also made by certain circles in the management board of the company, both during Hrusovsky's lifetime and after his death, but were unsuccessful. It would be worthwhile to find out from the minutes of the meetings of the Board of Directors who made such requests. Hrusovsky was well aware that without the help of other political figures he would not be able to achieve his goals. As a Protestant, it was not so difficult for him to win other Protestants in various political Slovak parties under the pretext that it was about getting the company into "Slovak hands". When the intriguers had secured the support of certain political circles, it was no longer difficult for you to discuss the matter in Parliament as well, and by doing so the objectivity of certain civil servants in the central authorities, who were able to exert an influence on the development of the Dunajplavba's operations, totally break or at least force them to fully passivity. The few who behaved bravely and did not want to comply were attacked in the hands of the authorities and also in Parliament with threats that both criminal and disciplinary proceedings would be brought against them if they had not been retired before (e.g. Minister Ing.Roubik, Ministerial Councillor Stanek, Head of Section Dr.Ottis, etc.) A really sad role had been played by the Police Directorate in Prussia. This authority had the greatest influence on socialist parties and Masons, unfortunately it did not understand how to maintain full objectivity. This authority was the one which had collected various false reports from the organizations branched out in the Dunajplavba, and - without having verified every single complaint in its substance - immediately reported the same to the higher authorities as a fact. It was this authority which had expressly forbidden the employees of the company - as was confirmed by witness statements at the Labour Court in Prussia - to make known an internal incident of the management of the enterprise. This action by the police directorate was all the more disconcerting as the administration had often been attacked by it and by other state authorities for the reason that it had not examined the events unknown to it. Thus, the police officer has undermined the autonomy of the administration of a 5 % state enterprise, as well as the discipline. When the management of the company had complained about this procedure of a state authority in higher positions, individual officials were still persequent because of this their fighting position (Dr.Cerny). •/.
