11 Translations. Draft answer to the congratulations letter of Dr. Beneš for election. Mr. President ! Your kind letter touched me and at the same time also in my office, which I hesitated and with great self-denial as a hard commandment of duty took on me, encouragingly influenced me. I took it on in an hour when I was looking forward to my humble home and to the literary work - my old preference - which was the hardest step of my life, all the more difficult because I am fully aware of my inadequacy. I can only strive to "make the best of it" within the limits of my powers. I am aware that I will soon be judged strictly, but the co-world may never be capable of a just judgment.
