Speech of the Czechoslovak President Dr. Eduard BENEscH. "Czechoslovac citizens! In my samstag speech, I explained to you the reasons which led the Germans to introduce such a policy in our country, which knows only the sharpest measures such as murder and torture. Not only in us, but also in the other occupied territories, the resistance of the peoples forced them to take similar measures. The Germans would have to realize today that they can no longer stand the pressure of the whole of Europe, indeed of the entire world. Their ally Italy is now already on the brink of the abyss, and they have no one else to rely on. They have no other means left but to launch a peace offensive. In order to begin such a process, it is absolutely necessary for them to achieve peace and quiet in the countries they occupy. They want to prove that the peoples of Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia and also the people of the so-called Frotektorat stand by their side and gladly conform to the German order. They want the whole world to see that these peoples feel the best and most comfortable under their protection and that their happiness is only that their country has been incorporated into the German territory. But all occupied territories respond to this only with their resistance. This war will take so long until the German people will be completely destroyed. The German propaganda and some Quisslingd, who have stood by their side, repeatedly emphasize in the Czech press and on radio how beneficial it is for the Czechs to cooperate with the Germans. You are supposed to see that any resistance you are trying to resist is completely in vain and that the Bohemian countries are gaining new ascent in the German habitat.But all these are lies of the German propaganda, whose purpose it is supposed to be, the - 2 -
