W - 6 - At present, these books are subject to a particularly critical and rigorous examination, and the result of this examination is that only a few books, the best ones, will continue to be approved or will receive paper for reprints. g) In connection with German lessons, it may be mentioned that the publication of a series of new murals is initially made of 24 pictures, which are not only a decoration for the schools, but are also intended to make the school children familiar with the landscapes of the Great German Empire, large German men, German cities, etc. (a) Generally speaking, the tendency is to withdraw teaching in the Czech language in favour of teaching in German. However, since all former Czech reading books were useless as a result of the chauvinist tendencies, the Czech teachers employed the pupils primarily with the Czech Bible and catechisms due to the lack of suitable reading materials, the need for reading in schools had to be taken into account by the creation of a new book book. Under the title "Nova citanka" (New Reading Book), the Reichsstelle has created a first nine volume book of reading books. Volumes I and II have already been published, while the other volumes are in print: with this book book, the Czech schools and the lower classes of the higher schools are provided with reading material for Czech lessons.
