La . to a tacit boycott on the part of a large part of Czech youth. The statements of the Czech side to the celebration itself are in most cases critical. One had not kept what was promised, because one could not call such a celebration a German-Czech event, as the press did before. With the exception of the Czech anthem as a single gesture, no attempt could be made to address the Czech population at the celebration. Whether the Czech people were almost forced to participate would not have been a single "friendly word" to the Czechs. The Czech participants had found themselves very superfluous. Skoda workers, for example, said that they had understood only the words "Benesh" and "Republic" from the speeches. Several times, the statement in working-class circles also fell that the Germans did not understand how to win the Czech worker, whom, although being promoted on every occasion, they pushed back in such cases. The establishment of a Czech costume group on the grandstand was therefore ironically discussed by some Czechs. Also the monolingual inscription of the street boards triggered many negative remarks. In intelligence circles, it was ironically explained that this was the first actual renaming in the Protectorate because a "Klattovská Třída" had been renamed into a "kadovská Tředa" (Henker Street). Several times it was also said that the rena- tion was of no importance anyway, because the street will soon be named again. After all, a number of positive statements for the celebration were also noted. We were particularly pleased to discuss the fact that the State Secretary had given a special meaning by his participation in the celebration. We also discussed with satisfaction the representation of a Czech costume group in the gallery of honour. In particular, Czech workers were reminded of Reinhard Heydrich's contribution to the social improvement of the workforce. Ys8e0E - 2 58877 OM8
