3 - 46 2.) Suicides. The emergency period requires that those in the Vehrmacht Ringen- are concerned about the fate of their relatives in the heat. Especially the married, who have been separated from wife and child and placed in unusual living conditions, will tend to give space to dull thoughts. This can lead to serious symptoms of depression, even to lifelessness, especially when there is a personal mental strain. The increasing number of suicides and suicide attempts at members of the Wehrmacht in the Protectorate makes it a special duty for the military leaders of all degrees to pay increased attention to the psychological hardships of their subordinates and comrades. Expositions of pessimism and life abuse must be reported immediately to the disciplinary authorities. By appropriate action, whether by a superior or by a friend, in such cases must be immediately tried to re-establish the depressed. In addition, everything must be done to eliminate the primacy of depression, as far as this is possible. If a Church belongs to the life-sustaining one, the appeal of pastors can also be considered. As reasons for suicides and suicide attempts, honour-giving gestures have been repeatedly applied by superiors.
