St.S. 353/39 v. 2o.12.39 As regards the reference letter, I take a position as follows: 1. The beginning of the war has shown that the High Command of the Wehrmacht in case of need to the W.E.I Prague as for the provision of San.- Off. in the Protectorate alone competent replacement department Amforderungen, which can only be fulfilled, without damage to the teaching firm at the Vniversity of Prague and the medical care of the German population, if the W.E.I is able to capture all the material to doctors and, taking into account all the necessities of life for the protectorate in the medical field, evaluate in such a way that, if necessary, the German Wehrmacht the war-use-capable doctors necessary for the care of troops are available in a military and medical training level, which provides the force with the guarantee of a military medical care. For this purpose, it is absolutely necessary to convene a large number of young doctors for basic training in a rapid manner, with the aim of promotion to the underdoctor. After achieving this goal (in the army at the moment 12, in the air force 8 weeks), the doctors are returned to their civilian employment. 2. It goes without saying that it is primarily the young doctors of the Prague clinics whose convocation does not affect the teaching activity, while a convocation of freely practising doctors was taken as far as possible to ensure on the one hand the medical care of the German population by German doctors and, on the other hand, to meet the legitimate demands of the Med. division at the Reichsprotektor with regard to exemption from official doctors, auxiliary doctors and hospital doctors. 3. The following were called: a) to the army of 3o doctors, 12 of whom had been in service in the national units and in the Res. hospitals since the beginning of the war. From this belong the General SS 7, i.e. a small part, among them one who was called for his urgent written request. b) To the Luftwaffe 21 doctors, who have volunteered, almost all already in the early summer; the registration of this was delivered to me by the Luchtgau physician VIII. A single doctor from a university institute is not a volunteer, his convocation took place after prior agreement with the SS site physician. This is a member of the Allgem.SS. 4. In accordance with the opinion of the Wehrmacht as set out in paragraph 1 concerning the requirement for the fulfilment of greater requirements of doctors, membership of the General SS could not have any influence on the planned convocation because: - 2 -
