47 - 4 - 2. The "crusade" against the East. An expression that we do not want to apply in the present confrontation of the New Europe with Bolshevism out of fundamental, worldly considerations is the term crusade. Although this expression may also be used at various times in momentary formulations, we are aware that it is out of place for the marking of our struggle against Bolshevism, because it not only misrepresents the essence of the separation of the renewed European peoples with Bolshevikism, but also devalues it. It may be understandable that other peoples use the word "crusade" constantly, because in their world of thought determined by the usual coming, a great unity of peoples is understood with this concept. We therefore do not want to start a confrontation with them and to understand for their will, but for our deeper understanding of today's wrestling, the concept of "crusade" is quite unnecessary. The word crusade derives from the Crusades, the end of the 11th to the endof the 13th century. In the early 20th century and later, on the impulse of the Pope and the Catholic Church, political motives for impatience were made, initially allegedly for the liberation of some of the "holy" sites of the church in the front Crient of Islan. The idea of the Crusades originates from the church's power-political concept of "evening-land" and so the vast majority of cruises are war and destruction campaigns against the "infidels" (heathen pruzzen, oots, heretics, etc.) to spread and expand the power of Catholicism. The Crusades of the Orient are said to be meeting the dangers that threatened the West by Mohammedanism. (It is not necessary to deny that a general unit of nations was revealed at times.) We do not want to forget that not only much and best German blood flowed on these traits, but also that through the Crusades a tragic, even profound weakening of the empire - in which it is held by its actual tasks - was achieved. The present confrontation with Bolshevism and its wrestling is for much deeper reasons than that it could be characterized by a word like crusade. National Socialism, in the time of struggle in Germany, has suppressed communism, by virtue of its life-linked world view. Christianity, which has always been the driving force of the idea of the "evening country" and of the concept of the crusade which derives from it, and which - we are fully aware of this - we did not like to exclude from the outset from the appearance of Bolshevism in Germany and elsewhere. In this way, the historical proof has been that it is not called before fate to force it out of its nature and structure out of Bolshevism and thus to make a substantial contribution to the renewal of Europe. Bolshevism is not only an "atheistic error" which one considers to be correct in Catholic thinking by a crusade - 5 -
