Copy. 19 NATIONALSOCIALISTICAL GERMAN WORKER PARTY Gauleitung Sudetenland Our sign: A/GE/1035 Prague, May 2, 1941. To the StrtS SS-Obergruppenführer K.H. Frank Prag. Dear Secretary of State! The question of the legionary monument or tomb of the unknown soldier at the Altstädter-Ring has been discussed many times and yet has not been brought to a satisfactory solution. If I turn to you today, Mr Secretary of State, not only on the basis of my party office, but as a participant in the world war, and I ask you to reconsider the question of the Legionnaire Memorial, so that the possibility is created of eradicating this monument once and for all. I looked at this thing once, how this is actually handled and had to find that young mountain hunters passed by, first hesitantly and then, when they saw that others also greeted this monument, they also gave their tribute. It is involuntary to think whether one of the fathers of these greeting young so-dates has fallen by the betrayal of a legionnaire in the world war. This is intolerable to look at and you, Mr. State Secretary, have already done so much balancing through your work and I would ask you to remove this monument of betrayal as well. I believe that even the Wehrmacht can only welcome this, since there will never be any demand that a monument be given the testimony of honour which glorifys the Czech legionnaire, since many sacrifices were made by the treason of the Czech Legionnaires during the World War. Heil Hitler! (I.S. ) gez: Signature Fritz Amreich.
