3 - In the Statistical Unit, a price index has therefore been calculated for the Nutrition Group, which takes account of the different composition of consumption, using from month to month the ratios available in the context of the war-food industry. However, the quantity scheme has been supplemented by free-to-buy foods, such as: Kartofeln, cheese, poultry, fish, quark, etc. until the calorific value of the peace scheme was achieved. However, the food to be bought free could only be used to the extent that it was at all available through production. Since a statistics of food consumption was introduced in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia in the context of the approximation of statistics, the necessary documentation is available from this statistics. The price index thus calculated therefore takes full account of the war economy and at the same time indicates the upper limit of price development, since the aim of the regulation is, of course, to reduce food consumption, while in the "changing" set of quantities the consumption of food has been adjusted to the calorific value of the peace scheme. In order to obtain a continuous and comparable price index, it was necessary to use the chain method in the changing pattern for excluding the changes in consumption from month to month. Although this method brought about an approximation of the price index to the cost index, at the same time maintaining the character of the rate of price index. If the ratio for bread has been reduced in a reference month, then it would of course have resulted in a reduction in the amount of expenditure, as a result of the reduction in bread consumption. Of course, the ratios are similar for all other foodstuffs. These changes in consumption from month to month have been eliminated by the use of the chain method in order to calculate a pure price index which takes account of the changed consumption conditions.
