After the world wars, when an unexpected upswing of automobilism began, more important roads gradually resumed the character of long-distance connections, because the long-haul port, which until then was finally made by the railways, partly returned to the roads. However, they did not meet the requirements as they were not built for a permanent and heavy motor vehicle traffic. Furthermore, the road network did not comply with the requirements laid down by the former Czechoslovaks, with regard to their geographical position, which had been extended from Vesten to the east. For this reason, the new State should simultaneously solve two important tasks in terms of transport policy: 1. improving existing roads, so that they correspond to modern traffic and 2. supplementing the existing road network with the State.
