X Excerpt from the list of personnel and lectures of the German Charles University Prague from the winter semester 1941/42. (p.5o) The studies at the Faculty of Philosophy are usually completed = with the doctoral examination, with the scientific examination for the teaching office at higher schools (state examination) or with both examinations. The award of the D o k t o r g r a d e s (promotion) certifies the applicant that he has made a valuable contribution to the scientific knowledge of his subject and is capable of independent research work. The acquisition of the doctorate opens the way, among other things, to the liberal professions of culture= living. Scientific officials at cultural institutions (e.g. libraries, museums, theatres, radio) are usually required to provide proof of the degree. The doctor = examination is given in front of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The examination regulations contain the "promotional regulations", which are available in the Dean's Office of the Department of Arts, Prague I., Smetanaplatz 2, room 139. The Kan = didat acquires the right to be a teacher in higher schools. Scientific examination = offices are responsible for the state examination, namely for the applicants from the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia with the address Prague I., Smetanaplatz 2, room 80.
