STATE SECRETARY FOR THE RUSSIAN PROTECTOR IN THINGS AND IN MORAVA, PRAGUE, inv. 338, sig. 109-4/82
English Translation
2/6a Do you wonder, gentlemen, about the outbursts of confusion and a tendency to extreme directions, if there is no warm-hearted, ingenious man among the professions who intervenes radically and has the courage to change the whole system in the interests of the people? You will be interested in the fact that long before the world war a large party has emerged, which has called itself national socialist, so was prepared to turn away from internationa- liism and sought to unite all the peoples 2. This goal, however, did not reach this party because of a fixed programmatic attitude. If I have considered the social question a little more detailed, please do not believe that this would be a late insight of an individual. Long before the war, our impeccably honest nationalist Dr. Kramář has campaigned for a just solution to social questions. Now a few words about an excellent institution in our people, the Turner Association Sokol. It has been created by its founders to physical upbringing and decent charac terization and looks back on a many decades of extensive tradition. Many of you have certainly seen one of the great Sokol events, either directly or in the cinema or in illustrated pages. The Sokol is completely unpolitical in the sense of any political parties, it includes all layers of our people from day laborers to university professors. The Sokol received a certain, albeit unintentional, political touch after its unprecedented rise, because its participation was absolutely voluntary, under Austria. His public events have not only demonstrated to his own people, but also to the outside, the exuberant power of a people who are well-versed in the highest goals of physical, moral and spiritual efficiency. The importance of the Sokol for positive achievements, especially in our time, is not high enough to be assessed. We have a special understanding of this on the German side, because you too have facilities with analogue objectives.
