Group on Food in Prague, 25.11.1942 and Agriculture II/2-3820-238/42. To the Head of Division II 27.2.1942 in the House. Subject: Your request for a report from l0.l.l942 Reference : Letter from Mr Otto R a h n, dated 1.l2.4l. When the official doctor responsible for the granting of medical treatment met his decision, he did not know, on the basis of the application of the attending physician or any other documents, that the sick person is dependent on catering for the restaurant. It therefore dealt with the case as one of the typical cases of gastritis, in which the common artificial food fat of the sick is not tolerated, and therefore ordered the retention of the margarine sections, all the more so since it was his special duty to counteract the increasingly widespread prescription of butter by the treating doctors by such compensation. It is not possible to give in to the sick person's desire to reverse the reduction of the margarine sections by his immediate influence on the card issuing office, otherwise the authority of the antologist would be called into question. On the other hand, however, the official doctor would violate his professional duties if he immediately accepted from the patient, bypassing the attending physician, applications whose consent would constitute an uncollegial intervention in the dispos- tions of the treating physician, who alone has to assess responsibly whether the patient is at all conducive to in-house catering in his sufferings. The complainant can therefore only be helped administratively by the Council to obtain a certificate from a doctor who treats him that he cannot spare the Marga rine sections of his normal ration due to inn catering, since nit butter is not available in the restaurants. As an inspector of the Reichsfinanzverwaltung, it should not be difficult for him to find an understanding of such a problem caused by the matter. Commissioned by: gez: Kiingenberg.
