In particular, if he were to receive from the Führer alone or jointly with the government, he should be withheld. Before the reception, I could not doubt, on the basis of a consultation with the President of the Republic, that he would limit himself to a condolences, to condemning the assassination and to guaranteeing loyalty, about as he had already done in his telegram to the Führer. I can certainly assume that you, Minister, too, were convinced of this, because otherwise, without doubt, you would have informed the President in Berlin, where there was a chance of doing so, and as you know, Mr Minister, I did not take part in the President's presentation to the Führer. I have learned from the President of the Government of the Council of Ministers of the subject matter of sub 22000, and I was not least surprised that the President did the unforeseeable speeches, and did not miss the opportunity to make him aware of the concern of the matter. It is clear, Mr President, that the President of the Council was not a little excited at the reception at the moment when he was aware of the seriousness of the hour; without a doubt it is due to his state of mind that he - of course in the best intention - had to speak in this way.
