23 - 19 - The school book publishing house. The collapse of the old Austro-Hungarian double monarchy meant that the Czechoslovak Republic had to take over the textbooks of the former Austrian publishing houses when it was formed. It was not possible to publish new textbooks in short weeks or months, which corresponded to the desire of the new state. The book publishing house, which was taken over by the Republic as a state agency, would also have been able to do this work. However, the different situation in which the Czech and German textbooks were located must also be taken into account here. The private Czech school book publishers had also been under the monarchic Aera in the Czech territory, i.e. in the Bohemian Kronlanden. Quite different from the German school book: Here we find the spiritual and cultural bond between the Sudeten German and Vienna symbolized in the concentration of the German book publishing house in the Austrian imperial capital. As a result, Czechoslovakia was forced to keep the old textbooks at its origin, and to introduce them from abroad until the new publishing house was able to keep its books waiting for it.
