The construction and purchase of new equipment (investment) spent a total of 176,261 million K; of which 10,212 million K was paid from own funds, 166.049 million K from the proceeds of the unification loan. Of the total expenditure is declared in the assets of a large account amount of 173,641 million K as a percentage of the basic assets. A total of 213,089 million were spent on the renewal of railway equipment and vehicles. K; this amount has been paid mainly from the depreciation made. In total, the result of the management of the railway undertaking can be considered to be usp- milky. In 1939 the construction activity was focused mainly on the continuation of the construction works, in the years started. However, some new constructions were also started, necessary due to the safety and efficiency of the operation. In particular, the reconstruction and construction of the two-track main railway from Brno to German Brod was started with the branch from Velké Meziříčí to Křížanov. In addition, the importance of the transport direction from north to south and new connections to the east was driven by the construction and accelerated completion of sub-tracks leading these directions by the Protectorate. These work mainly concerned the construction of certain track couplings, other and other tracks, the modification of lines for increased operation, extension of stations and heating and transfer of tram sections. In the field of railway superstructure were introduced, or prepared other constructions of the railway superstructure system A, better suited to modern needs. The laying and maintenance of the railway superstructure was further planned and improved. On some of the subways, the maximum speed of travel was considerably increased. In addition, test runs were carried out to determine the possibility of further increase of the maximum velocity still allowed for steam operation, preferably in longer continuous sections. On different lines, the maximum permissible pressure of the wheels was increased. In the past year, the railway administration participated intensively on the works of the Czech-Moravian company normalisation, especially in the field of construction services. The planned renewal of the iron-corrosion superstructure mainly affected the main transport arteries and the tracks on which the gradual reinforcement of the railway superstructure should be enabled to achieve the transition-ability of heavy vehicles. However, this was not neglected nor the operationally necessary renewal on the local railways. Despite the extraordinary conditions and the increased load of many lines, the railway network did not admit any damage to its operational safety and the maintenance and restoration programme could almost be fully fulfilled. In 1939, it had to be divided within the separation of the assets of the former ČSD between the Protecto-ráto- rátní dráhy and the Slovak national railway. There have also been some exchanges of vehicles with DR. Locomotive and fleet were complemented by new more economical and efficient locomotives, motor cars, passenger and freight cars. Newly supplied locomotives are types of well-established equipment that improve their efficiency, especially in terms of fuel consumption. Newly delivered passenger cars are strong constructions and suitable for speed above 100 km/h. A larger number of covered trucks were manufactured in their own railway workshops. 20
