V - 2 - This was particularly unpleasant because, with the exception of the consul, all Italians who were serving in the consular service in Prague were czech-splittered. On the question of the Czechs who are visiting the Italian Consulate General in Prague, Matteucci explained that these matters are dealt with by the Consul himself, but the internal political affairs of the Protectorate would be dealt with mainly by the Italian consul in Pressburg, Count R o n c a l 1 i . On the subject of Czechs, he also said that many Czechs , mostly with French passports, had emigrated even after Italy. They would be treated with great opposition in Rome, although they were not officially aware of their estate. Only the Vatican openly supports the Czech Enigration, and the Vatican Citta is said to have attempted to organize the Czechs. Therefore, the Czech students would continue their studies in the "Instituto Pon- tificio Orientale" and "Institutos Pontificio Biblico" which were led by the Jesuits. While the above-mentioned institutes, which include Poland and Catholic Yugoslavia, are the centre for spreading rather harmless panslavist ideas, another collection centre of Czech intelligence, the former "Collegio Boemo" ("Johanneum") is said to be a stronghold of anti-German propaganda. In connection with the Czech emigration in Italy, Matteucci also mentioned that the Czech crown, which had its own, though not official, course a few weeks ago, is no longer accepted in Italy.
