Situation report of 5 May 1938. 31389 The Political Committee of the Sudeten German Party makes the following comments on the internal political situation, as it did after Konrad Henlein's speech at the main session of 24 May 1938, and in particular on the situation in the United Kingdom. In April, in Karlovy Vary, the press echo, which found this speech in particular in the Czech Preese and the incidents of 1 May 1938, states: Even before the Karlovye Vary conference, Dr. Hodža and authorised representatives of the Sudeten German Party held official discussions of an informative nature, in which, in order to create conditions for the preparation of the opinion to be given to Sudetens Germanism in the state, among other things, the so-called removal of certain sources of danger was considered particularly urgent; this was done in mutual agreement because a further tightening of the internal political situation should be avoided. Thus, the Prime Minister promised: l.) A comprehensive political amnesty; 2.) The conduct of all municipal elections due by law before the summer holidays; 3.) The termination of any kind of Kxggx defamation or legal and social disadvantage. The latter commitment was made primarily to ensure that the citizens of German ethnicity, and in particular the members of the Sudeten German Party, have the constitutional fundamental rights of freedom of expression of political commitment Ll.24F
