82 3 - Government Councillor Dr. S. Sc h u l t h e i S , the following was said:eta ned Militaryly, the fortress of Brno has almost no value at all. The large part of the planned armored barriers -i and infantry ditch is not yet finished. Only with stones and wood alone can one not build real armored locks at all . The planning of the defence facilities around Brno had been drawn narrowly, because the individual heights around the city itself were almost not solidified. For the defense of Brno, neither weapons nor soldiers were available in sufficient numbers. Due to the flat landscape in the vicinity of Brno, the Bolsheviks could stand in front of Brno themselves within a very short period of time with their 8o - 9o kilometers of speed, especially with the Stalin tank "Gigant". If one could perhaps still successfully ward off the tank tips, then there would nevertheless be the danger that the Russian infantry, which had been trained in close- and canal combat, would be pursued as quickly as possible. Cities such as Lviv, Cracow, Budapest etc. had been rolled up in canal combat. Brno also had a branched canal system which could by far not be sufficiently defended. dThe opinion of the broad circles of the Brno population is almost completely in line with the views of the Brünn leaders. It is clear that the Volkssturmführer did not pass on the information given to them in the meeting with Major Blücher to their peoplessturmmen, for precisely from these circles do not come as desperate voices as from others. After all, when asked about her opinion, the population says that there is not much going on, because you can comfortably cross such a trench in the walker step and you don't even need to jump. How such a system can stop an army, which has been living for more than a year, with heavy and heaviest weapons, is incomprehensible. To the opinion of the deputy of the police president it is to be said from here that Dr. S. S c h u l t h e i s apparently has a "channel combat complex". This thing is a fixed idea of him. He certainly knows such types of combat from his time in Vienna quite well, but seems to overestimate their value after all. Some time ago, Schultheis from the Vienna police department had this type of fighting come to Brno for lectures in front of German and Czech police officers: he also gave the General Poel a personal talk about it.
