At this social low point, it is particularly important that the Nsv has done a very successful job so far. With nine support centres for mother and child, to which in three cases a counselling centre is attached, the NSV has proven itself above all in social and health care. In the period from 1.10.1939 to 15.2.1941, the Nsv spent 1,292,821 K on special care, for the relief work mother and child K 1,254,682.50. In the context of youth recreation care, about 500 young people have been accommodated in recreation homes of the Altreichs and the Sudetengaues, while 49 mothers have been given places in recreation centers of the Old Reich within the framework of maternal recreation care. Recently, the NSV is planning to set up a nursery in Pilsen, and such an institution would have a very beneficial effect, especially in Pilzen-Stadt, as a large proportion of working mothers would have to leave their children at home without sight; on the other hand, a number of working women were prevented by their children, who did not want to leave them without supervision, from pursuing a profession and had to fall to the burden of public care. Until now, however, this Nsv project has failed due to the issue of costs. Furthermore, the NSv intends to establish a maternity counselling centre, which also seems to be worth funding in every respect. At present, German mothers are usually forced to be treated in Czech hospitals or by Czech doctors and obstetricians. Enough cases are known which prove how much the national hatred of Czechism is also against Germanism in such situations. The establishment of kindergartens, which are of particular importance because of the care of the nationally most vulnerable children from the poorer classes, has so far also been successfully operated by the NSV. In the case of the establishment of protectorates, there was only a kindergarten in Pilsen, Ma- netin and Liehn. The preparatory work of the NSV has now progressed so far that an expansion of the existing facilities in Pilzen and Manetin as well as the construction of kindergartens in Rokitzan, Jinetz and Neudorf can be expected shortly. -7-
