30/ -3- collection as required, but at least each year. Thus, individual applications would have to wait for a whole quarter of a year for the evaluation of the Joint Committee. In agreement with the relevant economic group, we will ask the OPB to maintain the status quo for . individual requests in price matters. The Czech-Mährisches Verband für Beuten und Zucker (Böhmisch-Märische Verband for beet and sugar) has requested the OPB to introduce a compensatory levy at the prices for sugar, which is intended for the production of export goods. The reason for the introduction of this compensatory levy is that the duty-free sugar for the production of export goods is allocated to the domestic factories at lower prices than those which the sugar industry finds in the direct sale of sugar on foreign markets. The compensatory allowance requested would be cca K 35 for lo0 kg. During a discussion on this issue in the OBB, it was found that the representatives of the chocolate and sugar processing industry could accept this increase, since, if approved, export prices could be so favourable that this increase would be easily covered. At the same time, however, the application also concerns the sugar used for technical purposes by the leather industry.
