98 - 17 - London, 18.3.1944 The spring work of Danish farmers has begun again, and the problem of the procurement of labour for agriculture naturally arises. Diose is already complaining that it is impossible to obtain enough people for spring work, a tendency that is likely to increase, so that the shortage of labour will be even more serious in the summer, provided that nothing is done to counter this trend. An expert writes about this in an overview of the month of February: a lot of evidence indicates that the shortage of labour will become the biggest problem for agriculture next summer. It will be difficult to solve this problem, but a solution must be found, although very different means must be used than the previous ones. The report, however, misses the explanation that the shortage of labour has been so acute in recent years, and this explanation cannot be published today because of the censorship in Denmark. Thousands of workers are employed in the construction of fixed works for the Germans in Jutland, while others were sent to Germany to work in the German war industry, which is only forcibly voluntary work, in reality forced labor. 2. The Swedish press. There is a lively debate in the Swedish press about the irritating relationship that has been experienced over the last few months between the Swedish population and foreign refugees.
