I copy. Confidential! File note. Mr. v. Gregory ergo gez.K.Ansorge Prague, 23 March 1939. Subject: Activity of Dr.Benesh in America. A few days ago, the director of the Mars publishing house, Simon, told me confidentially that he had certain indications that Dr.Benesch in America had either started a strong anti-German activity or that he would do so soon. Dr.Benesch had said that he had gone away in confidence that he would thereby make the situation easier for his country and maintain independence. This presupposition had also prompted him to declare that he no longer wanted to be politically active. But this had not been fulfilled and he would now work for the re-establishment of independence just as he did in 1991 abroad. He would not only establish a maffia, but also a counter-government for the Tsch.-Sl., and he was convinced, indeed he already knew that America, England, France and Soviet Russia would recognize this regregation. Mr. Simon thinks that the time when this would happen in public, among the local Czechs, would cause dangerous unrest and would be logical. If there were a declaration of war by the mentioned powers against the German Reich, which Dr.Benesch reckons to be safe, this would also be a very critical angular view for the peace in Bohemia. The government would then be able to recover these, and one would then have to resort to the old "Národni Ceský Vbor".
