a The Head of the Party Chancellery Führer Hauptquartier, 4 February 1944. Order 22/44 Concerns: Behaviour of wives and family members of leading party members. On behalf of the leader, I recall the following principles: 1.) The wives of leading Party members must abstain from any interference in the business of their men. It is almost repugnant that women seek to somehow influence decisions of their husbands or personal assessments that they have to make. 2.) Women cannot be addressed by their husband's title or rank of service. They only hold titles when they have acquired them themselves. 3.) The title and rank of a party co-worker dürien for his marital union and his other family members never give rise to bragging or boasting. Modesty and an exemplary attitude always make a far more favorable impression than open or hidden references to titles and rank. 4. So-called social events, which the wives of leading party members believe to be guilty of the position of their men without compelling reasons of service, are to be omitted without exception. 5.) The longer the war lasts, the stronger the commitment of the leading party members to be an example of a willingness to fight, a sense of victory and a modest restraint in personal matters. This applies equally to their wives and other members of the family, including in particular that their wives: (a) integrate themselves unreservedly and as an example into the many limitations and burdens of the wartime and also avoid appearances as if they were somehow required to be better placed than other peoples; (b) perform their work in the use of war exemplary; (c) exercise the required restraint in the requirements and use of domestic staff within the framework of the regulations applicable to all; (d) undertake travel of any kind only in cases which are really necessary.
