125 the German friendliness of the Slovaks is well remembered already 1 0 years ago. All the more, after the establishment of the independent Slovak state, which was only possible with the help of the German Reich, a skilful political work of the embassy could have made Slovakia a clearly working state for the interests of the Reich. Again and again one could see that of all the events in Slovakia the embassy either did not know anything or did not want to know anything. The Slovak government has completely misinformed itself Perhaps the lack of association of the delegation with the ethnic group leadership also explains the political miswork in the German party. In my view, the present time seems to be the best way to place Slovakia under a clear pålitic German leadership without having to rise to greater resistance. The Slovaks no longer expect absolute independence, but expect to be put under a certain political influence. It can be explained from the above-mentioned attitude that their expectations at the present moment are more directed towards a Soviet protectorate of Slovakia. However, if the German side were to advance accordingly purposefully, Slovakia could be brought into the sphere of influence of the Empire without great difficulty, following the example of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Märten. The resignation of the Slovak people, which is almost completely dissatisfied with the political and economic powers that have prevailed so far, would only welcome a change in state life. These findings are based on many small observations and discussions which were conducted on the one hand by me, on the other hand by the main authors with floor-standing Germans and Slovaks in Slovakia.
