The Slovak people is linguistic and culture* historically a part of the unified Czech-Glo-Wakish nation, Also the Elovak part had part in all cultural struggles which led the Czech people and which made it known throughout the world. 2.) For this Czech-Slovak nation, we are in favour of the unlimited right of self-determination based on independence. On the basis of this principle, we declare our agreement to the newly created international legal situation, which President Wilson formulated on 18 October 1988 and which the Austrian-Hungarian Foreign Minister accepted on 27 October 1988. 3.) We demand the immediate conclusion of peace, on all human, Christian principles, such a peace, which makes further wars and other armor impossible by international legal guarantees." The revolution and the disintegration of the monarchy made very rapid progress, and so there was no time left for serious debate and theorization, the National Assembly saw that Slovakia had to be occupied quickly. She sent Dr. Šrobár, Dr. Blaho, Dr Dérer and my littleness with a modest army to take over Slovakia. On 6 November we invaded Holitsch with about 250 gendarmes and soldiers and set up as government representatives in Skalitz. From there our troops penetrated south and east towards Turnau. The National Assembly issued the memorable law "on the extraordinary transitional provisions in Slovakia", during the discussion of this law, the rapporteur, Dr Dérer, said: "Not without a certain movement I take the floor. Thousands of' years have laws been passed on the Slovaks, on us - without us. It is the first opportunity for the first law to be created, which specifically concerns us Slovaks, with our own participation." - 41 -
